WPBF featherweight champion Michael Farenas, the hard-hitting southpaw prot¨¦g¨¦ of former two division world champion Gerry Penalosa proved his worth with an impressive majority decision over former North American Boxing Organization champion and world title challenger Daniel Attah of Nigeria at the Morongo Casino Resort and Spa in Cazazon, California.

Two judges scored the fight by a wide margin for the Filipino southpaw. Fritz Werner has Farenas winning 79-71 while Fernando Villareal scored it for Farenas 78-72. However, the third judge James Jen-Kin scored the fight even ay 75-75.

Jen-Kin's scorecard was surprising since Farenas dropped Attah in round seven and the Nigerian was also deducted a point in round six.

Boxingscene.com reported that Farenas "allowed Attah to win the early rounds, but woke up in the middle of the fight and scored a knockdown in the seventh. Attah lost a point in the sixth for continued holding."

Prior to the fight Penalosa told the Inquirer that should Farenas who was trained by Freddie Roach win impressively there was a possibility he would fight world champion Yuriorkis Gamboa, next.
